Jair Bolsonaro detained after being deemed a flight risk

Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The former head of state was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" were revealed.

This included seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.

In a paperwork permitting the detention, Justice Moraes said information from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's aim to disable the tracking monitor to ensure success in his getaway".

Context of Sentencing
